King Sabata Dalindyebo (KSD) TVET College has announced orientation and induction dates for the 2026 academic year for both returning and new students. Orientation and induction programmes are a critical part of the academic calendar at TVET colleges, helping especially first-time students transition into college life, understand academic expectations, and access essential support services.
At KSD TVET College, these programmes traditionally take place shortly before the commencement of formal classes and are organised per campus and programme.
What students can expect for 2026
Orientation at KSD TVET college takes place in late January or early February, following the completion of registration processes and just before lectures begin.
The induction programme is designed mainly for first-year students enrolled in National Certificate (Vocational) (NCV), NATED (Report 191), and occupational programmes. Its primary aim is to familiarise students with the college’s academic environment, rules, and support structures.
During orientation, students are introduced to:
-
College management and academic staff
-
Campus facilities such as libraries, workshops, and computer labs
-
Academic rules, assessment policies, and examination requirements
-
Student support services, including financial aid, counselling, and career guidance
-
Student governance structures such as the Student Representative Council (SRC)
According to college officials in previous years, attendance at orientation and induction is strongly encouraged, as important academic and administrative information is shared that may not be repeated during lectures.

Campus-based orientation structure
KSD TVET College operates across multiple campuses in the Eastern Cape, including Mthatha, Zimbane, Libode, Mapuzi, Ngqeleni, and Ntabozuko. Orientation and induction dates are usually staggered to accommodate the different campuses and programmes.
Students should therefore note that orientation dates may differ depending on:
-
The campus where they are registered
-
The programme of study (NCV, NATED, or occupational)
-
Whether they are first-time entrants or returning students
Historically, campuses communicate specific dates directly to registered students via SMS, notice boards, and official college platforms.
Registration and NSFAS alignment
Orientation and induction are closely linked to registration and funding processes. Students who rely on funding from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) are advised to ensure that their funding status is confirmed ahead of time.
In previous years, delays in registration or NSFAS clearance have affected students’ ability to attend orientation on the first scheduled day. College administrators have often reiterated that students should complete registration as early as possible to avoid missing critical induction sessions.
For the 2026 academic year, students are encouraged to:
-
Regularly check the official KSD TVET College website
-
Follow the college’s verified social media accounts
-
Monitor communication sent via SMS or email
These channels are used to publish confirmed orientation dates once approved by college management.
Why orientation matters
Education experts consistently highlight orientation as a key factor in student success, particularly in the TVET sector where many students are entering post-school education for the first time.
At KSD TVET College, orientation sessions also focus on:
-
Understanding workplace-based learning requirements
-
Health and safety training for practical workshops
-
Time management and study skills
-
Campus rules and student code of conduct
Students who miss orientation may struggle to adapt to academic life, especially in programmes that require strict compliance with assessment schedules and workshop safety standards.
Advice to new students
As the 2026 academic year approaches, prospective KSD TVET College students are advised not to rely on unofficial sources or rumours regarding orientation dates. Instead, they should wait for formal announcements from the college.
Students can also prepare in advance by:
-
Ensuring all admission documents are complete
-
Keeping copies of registration and funding confirmations
-
Arranging accommodation early, where applicable
-
Budgeting for transport and basic study materials
Returning students, while not always required to attend full induction programmes, should still pay attention to any campus-specific briefings, as policy updates and timetable changes are often communicated at the start of the year.
