About the JMPD Training Programme

The City of Johannesburg’s Public Safety Department is offering a comprehensive 18-month training programme through the JMPD Training Academy. During this time, trainees will receive a stipend and be prepared for deployment as Metropolitan Police Officers upon successful completion of the programme.

This opportunity is open to both external applicants and City of Johannesburg employees. Trainees will be required to follow the JMPD Academy rules, RTMC training policy, and all terms set out in their training contracts.

 

Minimum Entry Requirements

To be considered, applicants must:

  • Be a South African citizen

  • Have a valid Senior Certificate (Grade 12 or NQF Level 4)

  • Reside within the Johannesburg Metropolitan area (proof of residence required)

  • Be 18 to 35 years old

  • Possess a valid driver’s license (minimum Code B) – no learner’s licenses

  • Be physically and mentally fit (submit a comprehensive medical certificate)

  • Have no criminal record or civil judgments related to fraud or corruption

  • Be proficient in English

  • Be willing to carry a firearm and wear a uniform

  • Be ready to undergo vetting and fitness assessments
